Red Blooded Irish Needed
I just returned from Giving blood with the intent of using
it for Patrick O'Connor's surgery tomorrow, but they don't
do that any more. Now when you donate blood you can get a
voucher to be given to someone who needs blood, but whose
insurance will not cover the Blood Service Fees.
The donor has up to 120 days to assign the voucher, as I
understand it, and I know Patrick will need blood from his
surgery and insurance will not cover that.
Thanks to all in advance
Pete Little

Blood Usage Reimbursement Vouchers
As part of the Commit for Life program, Gulf Coast Regional
Blood Center is excited to announce a new benefit available
to all donors. Beginning Jan. 1, 2006, every donor may
receive one Blood Usage Reimbursement voucher for each
donation.
Vouchers provide a $20 reimbursement for blood service fees
paid directly to a recipient after a claim is filed and may
be used for any patient in need that meets the criteria.
They are valid for 120 days from the date of blood
donation, offering flexibility in assigning the voucher.
Vouchers may be assigned via Digital Donor or by calling
the Blood Usage Reimbursement hotline before the expiration
date of the voucher. Annual (calendar year) limit on
vouchers paid per recipient is $1,000 or 50 vouchers.
The reimbursable expenses only include service fees for
blood and blood components. Patients with insurance,
Medicare, Medicaid or another third party payer are not
eligible for vouchers unless the insurance policy
specifically excludes blood and blood components. A
patient's co-pay or deductible is not covered under this
benefit. Reimbursement is paid directly to the recipient
and may be used for treatment at any healthcare facility.
While the fully insured do not receive a financial benefit
from Blood Usage Reimbursement, they can help those in our
communities who are most in need. We all benefit when
donors Commit for Life because it means there is blood on
the shelf when we, or our loved ones, are in need.
