Marion Tomas Griffin Sat Nov 11 @ Univ of St Thomas

Dear Friends: Please join us for the grand finale in our Irish Studies Cultural Outreach Series for Irish songs, drama, storytelling and guitar music at it’s best! Saturday, November 11, 2006 Marian Tomas Griffin An Irish Girl’s Journey When: 7:30 p.m. Where: Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon , UST Free and open to the public; no RSVP or advance tickets Sponsored by the Center for Irish Studies Cultural Outreach Forum, Kerry Records and The Irish Society With suitcase in hand, Irish actor Marian Tomas Griffin brings us on a journey through childhood days in 1980s Ireland; school days, teenage life, first kisses, Irish mothers, visiting Yanks, departures and losses and more in this hilarious, feisty yet poignant journey of a modern Irish woman. Ms. Griffin acts, tells stories, sings and plays the guitar in an outstanding solo performance. “It is a candid, humorous rite of passage for an American audience with some sophistication in things Irish,” said T.S. Kerrigan, the American Reporter Theater Critic. “Though the play begins in Ireland , in midstream the action shifts to New York , where Ms. Griffin wields her satirical scalpel effortlessly and with hilarious results.” Take down your lantern from its niche and go out on your journey. The twists, the turns, the winding places and unknown destinations invite your pilgrim heart to flame with love. You may not rest in firelight certainties, nor may you build yourself confining walls. Go out! For need calls loudly in the winding lanes... and you must journey on. Born in New York City and raised in Killala, County Mayo , Ireland , Marian has been a part of the New York music, theatre and film scene for the past eight years. As lead singer and guitarist with many traditional Irish bands, including Aisling Eire or as a solo performer, Marian has entertained audiences all over New York City at venues like Tir na nÓg, Fitzer’s, Tommy Makem’s, Fibber McGee’s, Paddy Reilly’s and the Guinness Fleadh, to name just a few. At the Irish Repertory Theatre, Marian also appeared in The Shaughran and she has had the honor of appearing on Broadway for the past five years as part of the Irish Repertory Gala Benefit with such stars as Gabriel Byrne, Sinead Cusak, Tate Donovan, Eric Stoltz, Angela Lansbury, Liam Neeson, Vanessa Redgrave, Milo O’Shea, Frances Sternhagan and Kevin Spacey. This Kerry Records production is directed by Margaret O’Carroll. See www.kerryrecords.com . We look forward to seeing you tomorrow night! Thanks for your loyal support!
