Celtic Music in Texas
Date: Sat, 26 May 2007 17:09:30 -0500
From: "Texas Celtic Music Network"
Subject: [tcmn-weekly] Texas Scottish Festival (Celtic Music 5/26 - 6/5)
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Bad news--Cape Breton fiddler Jerry Holland has bone cancer and is
probably going to lose his leg (in fact it may have been amputated
yesterday). Although his prognosis for survival is good, he is likely
to have to miss a lot of his bookings this summer, which is the season
when he earns most of his income. For donation information, go to
http://www.jerryhollandfund.org
2. On a positive note, registration is now open for the O'Flaherty
Irish Music retreat, which will be held October 26-28. The teaching
staff this year will include Pat Broaders (bouzouki), Matt Cranitch
(fiddle), Mickey Dunne (uillean pipes), Catherine McEvoy (flute),
Tommy O'Sullivan (guitar), Patrick Ourceau (fiddle), and Mark Stone
(bodhran). For more information and to register, go to
http://www.irishtradmusic.org/retreat/
THIS WEEK'S MUSICAL HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games in Arlington, June
1-3.
* In addition to his performances at the Texas Scottish Festival,
Brian McNeill will be giving a concert at MacHenry's in Fort Worth on
May 31.
Note: These mailings assembled by unpaid volunteers in a
sleep-deprivation experiment. All schedules subject to change or
perhaps even error. Send listings, preferably in text-only format, to
http://us.f831.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=calendar@texcelt.org&YY=99747&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0. The calendar covers Monday to Monday (under
normal circumstances) and is mailed over the weekend (under normal
circumstances). Submit your listings by Friday. Regular events are
listed once a month (like this time).
