Celtic Music in Texas
MAKING THE ROUNDS:
Gaelic Storm in Austin 5/17, Houston 5/18, Dallas 5/19
ANNOUNCEMENT:
Chris Smith will be teaching a 3-week intensive in the second summer
session (June 24 - July 13) at Texas Tech's Junction campus (near
Fredericksburg). Courses will be MUHL4300/5320 "Music, Folklore, and
Tradition in Irish Cultural History" (3 credit hours) and
MUEN3106/5106 "Celtic Ensemble" (1 credit hour). Registration is open

Music, Folklore, and Tradition in Irish Cultural History (3):
Intensive, topics-oriented survey of the styles, practices, and
cultures of Irish music and oral tradition: memory, texts, music,
dance, and the sacred. Lectures, reading, listening, audio/visual
sources, and in-class performances. Enhanced learning experience
combining approaches from folklore, ethnomusicology, cultural and
literary history, performance studies, anthropology, geography, and
more.
Celtic Music Ensemble (1): Performance workshop: Learn, hone, and
enhance skills in traditional dance music of the Celtic Nations. Open
to all levels of instrumentalists.
