SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCING AND MORE:
NEXT WEEK: JUDI HALLENBECK will lead the group while I'm away in the
Hill
Country :-)
TONIGHT: We reviewed San Antonio ball dances (we have 12 dancers
planning
to attend: Dianna Shipman, Bud Norton, Dennis Neal, Carol Neal, Susan
Kelm,
Rafael Enriquez, Mitch Philpot, Marilyn Johnson, Jenna Parshall, Ed
Fuller,

http://www.gringosmexicankitchen.com/html/home/ for
dinner to help Dennis Neal celebrate his birthday! We walked through
White
Cockade, Machine Without Horses, and Bobby Brown's Canadian Breakdown
as our
warmup, then danced Sisters of the Heart, Dunnatur Honors, Elianor of
Briarlea, Mrs. Macleod (with live music by special guest BARBARA
DOWNIE!),
Black Mountian Reel, and then once and to the bottom for Argyll
Strthspey,
Gretchen's Fancy and Lady Home's Jig, then Bees of Maggieknockatar,
Garry
Strathspey and once and to the bottom for J B Milne.
THANK YOU to BARBARA DOWNIE for bringing shortbread direct from
Scotland!
BUD NORTON modeled his new tartan trews in the Buchanan tartan made for
him
by SUSAN KELM.
MEMBER NEWS:
CAROLYN MADDOX writes in part:
I apologize for not being around much lately. As you all know, I'm busy
with school, which has turned out to be a lot of work. But I know it's
worth it and it will be over soon. I will be taking the summer off, or
if I do take a class it will be just one. I will be back dancing soon.
I miss Wed nights!! This week I am busy catching up on school work
before I
leave for PA on Sunday. I'm traveling with another keeper from work.
We're
going to
learn how to track and do population surveys of North American River
Otters. There is a project that has been in place for at least 10 years
in PA, where they reintroduced NAROs to areas where their population
numbers were low. It has been very successful. The knowledge we gain
will be brought back to Texas where we will be working with Texas Parks
and Wildlife Department and Texas A&M to NARO surveys here. Texas is
evidently unaware of what the status of our NARO population is. This is
something I have been hoping to do since starting at the Zoo. We are
encouraged to participate in conservation projects and this trip is
being funded by our Conservation Committee. I am very excited about
this opportunity. . . Carolyn
REBECCA ROBERTS writes in part: Subject: The boys played for Texas A&M
today [Saturday, March 26]
If you click on the website below you will see a picture I took of the
boys
at the edge of the pitch with Drews camera phone. . . They both played
extremely well for the Uni

JANELL MACAFEE HAMOR writes in part:
We have a new calf!!!!! Born [March 24] about 11 am. It's a little
Highland
bull. He and mom are fine and doing great...No name yet, it will come
to us.
We want something Scottish, of course. (I'm leaning towards Claymore's
Guy
Montgomery or Claymore's Matheson.) Right now I call him Mathan
(mahan...bear in Gaelic; he looks like a fuzzy teddy bear!) I'd love to
have
suggestions from the group! Happy Easter! Love, Janell and Jim
[Dianna's
Note: see Janell's member page for photo of new calf.]
