John Stansell RIP

John Stansell was a long-time member of The Heather and Thistle Society of Houston  John Stansell JOHN A. STANSELL, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on January 11, 2005. John was born on July 20, 1917 to Bess and Arthur T. Stansell in Mart, Texas. He graduated from Texas A & M University in 1939 and soon after served his country in the United States Army in WWII. But before shipping overseas he made the best decision of his life and that was to marry Bettie Gray Nix. Overseas, he participated in numerous battles and amphibious landings until becoming a German POW. After the war John and Bettie moved to Bellaire and have lived here since 1950. He entered sales and stayed in the Army reserves until finally retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in 1977. John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettie Gray Nix Stansell; his three sons, Arthur of Bellaire; Gray and Glenda of Pasadena, and Jerry and Robin of Abilene; grandchildren: Jason and wife Maria, Heather, Melanie, Taylor, Chelsea, Clay and Katie; and great-granddaughter Ashlyn. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Earthman Bellaire Chapel, 6700 Ferris. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2005 at Southwest Central Church of Christ, 4011 West Bellfort at Stella Link Rd. A veteran's interment will be held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at the Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas A & M Foundation, 1-800-392-3310.
